Press Statement from The Football Association of Thailand (FA Thailand)
Regarding the Draw Ceremony for the ASEAN U19 Boys' Futsal Championship 2025

Mr. Adisak Benjasiriwan, Vice President of the Football Association of Thailand (FA Thailand) for Futsal and Beach Soccer, extends his sincere apology to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and to the people of Vietnam following the regrettable incident in which the national flag of the People’s Republic of China was mistakenly displayed instead of the national flag of Vietnam during the draw ceremony for the ASEAN U19 Boys' Futsal Championship 2025, held today. The tournament is scheduled to take place at Nonthaburi Provincial Stadium, Thailand, in December 2025.

FA Thailand fully recognises and deeply respects every member association at all levels, as well as the importance of each nation’s flag as a symbol of national identity. We therefore express our profound regret over this mistake. Immediately after the incident, FA Thailand took decisive action by appointing a fact-finding committee to investigate and take disciplinary measures against those responsible. Initial findings indicate that the error originated from the event organiser.

In addition, Mrs. Nualphan Lamsam, President of the Football Association of Thailand, has formally issued official letters of apology to both the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). She has also assigned Mr. Adisak Benjasiriwan, Vice President for Futsal and Beach Soccer, together with the relevant delegation, to personally travel to Vietnam on 29 October 2025 to convey the Association’s apology directly to the President and executives of the Vietnam Football Federation.

FA Thailand sincerely hopes that the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the people of Vietnam will kindly accept our apology and forgive this unintentional human error, which was made without any intention of disrespect towards the country of Vietnam. This incident serves as an important lesson for FA Thailand to exercise greater caution and diligence in all organisational processes, in order to uphold the highest standards expected of us as hosts under the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF).
